James Archbell, President of A&W Contractors, Inc. and founder of his non-profit organization donated $10,000 toward the purchase of a new 2012 Chevy Silverado to replace the truck stolen from 71-year old Leroy Twine in February from a Great Bridge Boulevard 7-Eleven while he was on a run to pick up food to deliver. Mr. Twine gathers leftover food from area businesses each day and distributes it to the needy in Hampton Roads before reporting to work as a full-time blocker and bracer in terminal operations at the Norfolk Naval Station. His efforts have also supported organizations such as Operation Blessing, battered women’s shelters and churches.

On February 21, 2012 the JCA Foundation presented eight Chesapeake school principals with checks totaling more than $8,000 to be used to the purchase school supplies for some of their less fortunate students, educational materials and other classroom necessities. In addition to the cash donations, the Foundation also stocked each school with supplies like construction paper and pencils, as well as provided “hygiene baskets” containing assortments of toothpaste, soap, lotion, shampoo and other toiletries.

On February 7, 2012 the JCA Foundation delivered 2 BMX bicycles to two children who had been selected by the school for excellent academic and social standing. In addition to the bikes the Foundation presented Oscar Smith Middle School with a check in the amount $1,000.00 and 50 sweatshirts. “So many people give to the elementary and high school levels but the middle school is often overlooked,” said Oscar Smith Middle School Principal, Dr. Scott. The entire school was extremely grateful and appreciative of the donations from the JCA Foundation.

James Archbell (President of A&W Contractors, Inc. & the founder of the JCA Foundation) appeared on the WVEC Channel 13 Noon Show Monday, November 14th. Jay talked about the 2011 Kidz Kruz and how the Foundation needs continued community support to expand this annual holiday shopping event to even more underprivileged children in other Hampton Roads school districts.

On November 7th and 8th, James Archbell visited seven Title 1 Chesapeake schools and handed out more than 700 sweatshirts to children who will attend this year’s Kidz Kruz. Participating schools include: Sparrow Elementary, Crestwood Elementary, Georgetown Primary, Truitt Intermediate, Thurgood Marshall Elementary, G.A. Treakle Elementary and Camelot Elementary.

On December 4, 2011 more than 700 children from elementary schools in Chesapeake participated in the JCA Foundation’s annual Kidz Kruz. The children and chaperones boarded giant buses and traveled to the Edinburgh Commons Walmart where each child received a $20 gift card to go on a holiday shopping spree. After the shopping trip, the children enjoyed a pizza dinner and visited with Santa before boarding the bus again for a trip to the Virginia Beach Oceanfront to tour the Boardwalk Holiday Lights.
